Navigating the Job Market – Alternatives to Recruitment Agencies & Online Job Boards

"I feel like I''m not find enough opportunities for me." This is a common complaint that we receive from our customers in a minute. In the last two days I have two clients have to say to me that they are talking to agencies, searching online job boards, looking through the paper and do not see opportunities that interest them or is their abilities.

Recruitment agencies have been seriously affected in the current economic climate, with more companiesRecruiting in-house or the setting is not at all. Some agencies are reporting a 40-50% reduction in fees compared to this time last year and we have seen significant redundancies or reduction of staff in most of the players in the Australian market.

Budgets mean that these organizations don''t which a hiring freeze (or "cool down") may be incompatible with the traditional methods of recruitment. This is the task of the ANZ bank, 'ad series, which supportsfound that Internet and newspaper job advertisements fell by 6.7% in June, after a few months of stabilization, which is the 51.4% annual decrease.

People are still finding new jobs and businesses are still the attitude, then how do you find these opportunities?

1) Line

John Lees (UK's leading career) strategist, says that about 60% of job seekers work through its network, compared to only 10% by adjustingAgencies. Very often, the job opportunity doesn''t necessarily come from your first degree network, but through their network.

Make a list of all the people you know and for example, in batch groups (sports clubs, former colleagues, parents of friends of your kid''s). Then you get clear about what you want to achieve and what results you are looking for. For example, if you carry a particular company you would like to work, you've achieved. If you are a contact, as in aOrganization, where you can apply directly for a role, enter the result.

If you listed your results, e-mail, telephone or with members of the network and ask for their help. Many people are afraid of burdening their network or come across as "desperate." However, if done in the right direction, most people are happy to help their friends / network to have the feeling the privilege interviewed. Ask for help in an informal way, or with a cup of coffee. If you have an e-mail composition, you add your application asPart of another relevant subject groups.

Through the tracking of who has contacted you and what were the results and if you follow, you will fast as you think, is making progress. Tracking your progress using Excel or a similar tool makes it even easier.

2) approach companies directly

Is there a company or industry that you've always wanted to work? Why not research opportunities that directly with them? If you go to a settingAgency, they would contact these organizations on your behalf. How many companies do not have the resources to work with placement agencies. Why not try it yourself? First, get really clear why you are working for this organization. What's the benefit for them to hire you (have you for a competitor before? Do you have a good understanding of the industry? Do you have valuable contacts to help companies with the development?).

Then research theirWebsite. Get a strong indication of who they are and what projects they are working on. Look at the careers pages of their website, they have all relevant employment opportunities? Talk to your network and see if there are any indications that they may be the setting in the future? For example, if you know that the company is currently tendering for a large project could mean that there are options available when it is won.

Once you have gathered this information, feel andconfident about the benefits of hiring you to apply by phone or online. Remember, if you apply for a certain task, you will continue to fit accordingly. When you call out to see if there are any possibilities are, firstly, to see if your network knows any contacts within the industry.

Alternatively, you can find the number for HR on the Web site, LinkedIn or call the front desk. Explain the reason for the call, why you would like to work for the company and ask if they have currentOpportunities and potential opportunities in the future. The employer is rather someone who really strives to recruit for their organization of work, so even if they don''t all the possibilities now ask if you can send through your application, so that they are in the file. Such discussions can also be an informal meeting, if things change in the future.

By using a holistic approach to search for your job, you are more interested in the work that you want to find. Use the above strategies inConjunction with existing relationships with advertisers and frequently checking online job boards, newspapers and industry publications.
